August 15, 1997 was a seasonally warm Friday. The afternoon air buzzed with cicadas and end of summer shenanigans. After a city league softball game Kemberly Lorin Ramer left on her way to her boyfriends house. What happened after she left there only a few know.
After about 36 hours authorities were alerted to her disappearance. The town of Opp was your typical southern small town. Major crime was nonexistent so the local police were not prepared for what was to come.
There have been numerous searches done all over south Alabama and north Florida but nothing or no one has come forward regarding the details of that night 23 years ago. All her family and friends are left with are memories and the question of, “Where’s Kem?”
Here’s what we know:
It is believed that Kem made it back to her father’s residence August 15, 1997, as her car was parked out front and personal belongings (keys, money, contacts) were found in her room. Authorities believe that she was taken between the hours of midnight and 6am. Multiple outgoing calls were made from the residence within the aforementioned timeframe. Though the calls were unsuccessful, they were made to a particular area of interest.
At the time of her disappearance Kem was 17 years old. Kem stood 5’4″, 130lbs. She had dark brown hair and wore clear braces. If you have any information please contact the Opp Police Department at 334-493-4511, Walton County Sheriff’s Office at 850-892-8111, or the FBI at 251-438-3674.
